No Because you digital unit id number does not start with 00-12*****. If it
does the answer would be yes.

This receiver can be purchased for $400 and are limited to Canadian
programming. You will not be able to get a description to anything in the
IPG other than Starchoice Programming. Its working for now and when the
transition is finished channels for U.S satellite systems will not display
on the Canadian system.

I have the 921 and here is what I see. If I unplug the reciever(reset) and go
on G9 780, I'll get the US IPG. Then if I go on Anik 2, the Starchoice IPG will
load. It will kick off the US IPG but, for the programs that are being shared on
both IPG's, the US marking will prevail. For instance, on the canadian IPG, CNN
should be like E2 322 (not the right number anyways) but instead will be shown
as G5 05. It is like that for all stations like ABC, NBC, CBS and so on.

ps. Just wanted to put my 2 cents worth.

You can not have a Star Choice receiver authorized for US digital. The
Unit ID number are different for the 4DTV and the Star choice. If you call
a US source and ask for authorization your numbers will not work. As the
system is now they can take your numbers and process them, there isn't any
checks and balances in place like the VC# has to tell the programmers if it
is a valid DC ID number. But you will not get any of your US programming
nor will you get the IPG for the US.

Checkout:

http://www.altavista.digital.com/cgi-bin/query?pg=q&what=web&kl=XX&q=4dtv&search.x=24&search.y=8
(AltaVista Search for 4dtv)

I found the AltaVista search very helpful. The prices are changing fairy
rapidly at many sites. To know the current lowest price you will
probably have to do some searching on the internet.

Also I have not personally had any dealings with most of these vendors
so I have now knowledge or affiliation with them.

You may also want to checkout the news:alt.video.satellite.4dtv news
group if it available on your ISP's server.

If you have a 10' c/ku set up just make sure your KU LNB is a good
one. I have no problems receiving the digital KU programming that is
in FP mode on Anik E2 ku and I have a .7kulnb.
You can get a phase stable lnb and this might help some.
Also you need to make sure your dish is tweaked correctly.
both the 4Dtv and the 921 Star Choice receivers are the same according
to the info received with the exception that SC receivers can only be
authorized for SC programming and the 4DTv can only be authorized for
digital programming such as HBO ect...and not for SC programming.
New York State is in the footprint and should be able to receive a
good signal from Anik E2 ku.

**SC= Star Choice**

Authorization Codes:

These codes can be found on the 920 / 922 & 921 receivers by pressing,
Options, 6,0,5, Right Arrow >, Right Arrow >
This will bring you to the diagnostic screen B which has the
following codes at the bottom.
================================================================

ZK = Zero Key
Channel is open for everybody. Classified as "FTA".

FP= Fixed Processed or Fixed Key
Channel is FTA only if your receiver is authorized or in the system.

MP= Multiple Processed or Scrambled
Channel is scrambled and you need an authorization/subscription.

MI= Missing Information
Channel cannot be viewed because of missing information.

MS= Missing Service Status
Critical information is not there for programming to appear.

NS= Not Subscribed
Channel is not available until you subscribe.

S= Subscribed
Channel is currently subscribed to.

US = Undefined Service. Means that there could be something missing
that will not allow you to see the channel.
It could be something as simple as a bad service number,
or it could be that the programmer is no longer
showing that programming at that frequency.

CL= Channel Lockout
Channel is locked out and you need to hit options 3-3 to remove the chanbnel lock.

OC = Old Category
You receiver did not receive the monthly code update and you may lose
all authorizations until you either call your provider for a re-hit or you
"luck-out", and receive the updated code by staying on a channel you
had subscribed to.
(The best way to make sure you receive an updated code is to leave your
receiver on a subscribed digital channel overnight or while your at work.)

There is another code :
U= Subscribed
The programmer basically says they don't want to pay Motorola for tier bits to open up to the
4DTV market so the program is open  (subscribed) on any receiver that is turned on in the system.
Remember the 920 & 922 are on a different system then the 921. this "U" code will not work on any other system.
If Star Choice has a "U" code on one channel then only the Star Choice receivers will be able to view that channel.

If you would like volume control on your tv only; via your 4dtv remote
then set your receiver to:
A0 remote code to 000
A1 remote code to 001
A2 remote code to 002
A3 remote code to 003

When GI gave us last years software upgrade to 0000006D, we received
the prevelage of volume control on the 4dtv as well as the tv. Now you
could set the codes as follows. Receiver code set to:
A0 remote code to 100
A1 remote code to 101
A2 remote code to 102
A3 remote code to 103

As you may know to set the code on the 4dtv is with the north/south
keys on the right side of the reciever or up and down buttons. Once you
press them at the same time, you will see A0 or A1,A2,A3 in the display
area on the 4dtv receiver.

To change this code is done again by using the north/south keys or up
and down buttons on the front of the 4dtv receiver.

Once you select the code, hit the "enter" button on the 4dtv receiver
and now your ready for the remote code.

Remember 000,001,002,003 on the remote disables volume control on the
4dtv receiver and only tv volume will work. 100,101,102,103 wil enable
both volume controls;.... on your tv via tv button (on your remote) and
4dtv volume control via the sat (4dtv) button beside the source button.

Options 6-0-5

The 2nd line shows the version number: This one began as version 27 and was updated to version 6D.

Options- 6-0-5- >

The 2nd line showing here "B6B7" is the monthly code update.
If you ever get an "OC" where it shows "ZK" here in this photo, you did not receive your monthly update.

Options- 6-0-5- > >

Ever hear of TDT Overflow ? One of the flaws in the receiver is that the overflow limit was set to 1920.
This next diagram shows the TDT on this receiver at 1807.  Look on the top line in the middle.

The next photo shows the TDT at 1797.  Once it hits 1920 your receiver will do some strange things and only a Master Reset will correct it.

This next screen shows the IPG download section.
If you use the arrow keys on the remote you can page down here.  This one shows a 920 receiver.
The 921 receiver uses a "Trickle Down download" system and that shows up when your on this screen and use the arrow key to page down 1 time.  You can also flush the IPG while on this screen by hitting the "info" key on your remote.
