The firmware 74 is being sent out on A2 !

Motorola salesman Joe Cornwall has stated on a satellite talk radio show that the 74 firmware was just too buggy to release at this time to the 920 owners and that there are no plans to send out this code to 920
owners on G0 at this time.  There will not be any firmware upgrades for the 920 in 2002.

If it is not good for 920 owners then why are they forcing it on the 921 owners ?
Is it Motorola or Starchoice doing this ?

Once you have taken the firmware update there is no returning back to the old one
unless you have the unit reflashed but then the new code will once more
try to take over whenever you go to the satellite that is sending out the code.
Motorola constantly sends out a firmware code on G0.
At this time it is currently 6D for the 920 receviers.
Once they begin sending out the download it will be quite fruitless to try to avoid the new code changes.
You can delay it by trying the following:

To keep from taking a download:

You have to disable auto-repoint and then get the
IPG manually by pressing the Guide button.

About every six days, you should power cylce the receiver
(unplug it then plug it back in again).

There is a seven day countdown that changes the download to be
a forced download, which means the upgrade can start any time
you move to Galaxy 10  (GO).

Normally, the upgrade only occurs when the receiver is off,
So if the forced download timer is reset, and you don't
turn the receiver off, then you will not get the download.

Turn your 4DTV off on Galaxy 10  (GO), and your SOL!

If you power cycle before going to get the guide,
then the receiver will only receive the preamble,
which tells it about the new firmware,
but it won't actually begin the download unless
you turn the unit off while the receiver is on G0.

Another way is to hook up your 4dtv receiver as a slave unit and
keep it off of Galaxy 10  (GO).

Here is a photo of Diagnostic screen A:
To get tho this screen:
Using your remote:
Hit options 6-0-5
You will see this screen.

OK now go down to the 3rd line from the top.

000027     00006D   00006D       00006D    000000     ID

The first code with the 027 at the end is the original firmware code installed in this unit.
The others with 06D at the end are from another firmware update on this recevier.
the set with all 000's is the one that will show 74 on this new firmware
The "ID" will change to "A0" (Awaiting Opportunity) called the preamble.
If you have 6D like the photo above you do not have the
preamble and your unit is not taking any download, yet!

Once that line looks like this::::
000027     00006D   00006D       00006D    000074     A0
Then you have the preamble.

Now if you turn off the recevier it will take the download while
on that satellite that is sending out this firmware update.
Also if you have this preamble on your receiver for 7 days
your dish will automatically move to the satellite that is downloading this
code and you will receiver it even if your receiver is turned on.
You have to disable auto-repoint to keep your dish from moving on it's own.

Your guide may be disrupted.

power cylce the receiver
(unplug it then plug it back in again) to remove the preamble
the line will then look like it did
000027     00006D   00006D       00006D    000000     ID

If your unit has the new firmware update that line will appear as follows:

000027     000074   000074       000074    000000     ID
